newport beach sedationWe want to ensure every patient has a comfortable time in our office, even those with dental anxiety or special needs! To help provide this, we can offer our patients dental sedation. In today’s blog, your Newport Beach, CA, dentist can provide three different calming options.

When Patients Need Dental Sedation

When do we recommend dental sedation for our patients? If you are undergoing a more extensive treatment such as tooth extraction, dental implant placement, or grafting or a sinus lift, then you need a calming solution to ensure your oral surgery is a positive experience. If you have special needs or high anxiety levels that make undergoing care a difficult process, then we could help with a calming solution.

Selecting the Best Option for You

How do we choose from our three dental sedation options? Our team will look at a number of different options, including your age, weight, medical history, and anxiety kevels. We also want to know any medications that you are taking, and we will factor all of these in our selection. We can help patients of all ages, from kids to adults, and can tailor an optimal solution for them to ensure comfort during the procedure.

A Look at Three Selections

We have three different options to help patients enjoy a comfortable visit when they undergo oral surgery. The mildest form is nitrous oxide, which we administer through a mask over the nose. You breathe in a gas and enter a deep state of relaxation, with little memory of the process despite being conscious. The effects can be adjusted during care and pass once the procedure ends, so you could even drive yourself home!

For a deeper calming, we could offer oral conscious calming in a pill or liquid form before the treatment begins. You enter a deep state of calm, with no memory of the procedure, but still remain conscious. The effects take time to wear off, so you should have someone ready to take you home afterward.

The deepest form is administered intravenously. With IV, a trained anesthesiologist will be able to monitor you. And you will enter a deep and sleep-like state, with no memory of the procedure. Again, you will need someone to bring you home for care. If you have any questions about how we can offer a calming oral surgery experience with sedation, or if you need to see us for dental implant placement or tooth extraction, then reach out to our team today.
